Chicago Heights, IL—(ENEWSPF)—August 21, 2012. The Prairie State College (PSC) Anime Club is hosting Maneki Neko Con, an Anime/Sci-Fi convention, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at the PSC main campus, located at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.
The convention features classes and workshops focusing on anime, art, science fiction, fantasy, costuming, writing, and Japanese culture related topics. The convention will be followed by a 6:30 p.m. masquerade, limited to the first 400 attendees in line.
Among the activities during the day will be children’s programming and crafts, ‘how-to’ classes, gaming, a cinema appreciation room, basic martial arts classes, an art show with participation from professional and student/novice artists, an art contest, creative writing contest, and masquerade/costume contest.
Tickets are limited to the first 700 registrants, so pre-registration by Sept. 12 is recommended. The cost for adults 18-years old or older is $20. A discounted rate of $15 is available to students at any school or military service members. The cost for children 7 to 11 years old is $5, and children up to 6 years old are admitted free, but still need to register. Group rates are available to schools. Lunch is available for purchase at the cafeteria on campus.
