For Working People, The Choice Is Clear: President Obama Stands With Us

SEIU’s Henry: “With President Obama’s continued leadership, working people will know that America is moving forward, that we are on the right path, and that our country’s best days are still to come.”

CHARLOTTE, N.C.–(ENEWSPF)–September 7, 2012. The following is a statement by SEIU President Mary Kay Henry in advance of President Barack Obama’s acceptance of the Democratic Party’s nomination for re-election:

“The men and women of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) know President Barack Obama has walked in our shoes and is the leader we need walking with us for the next four years. Tonight, President Obama will make the strong case for why the American people should give him the opportunity to continue his fight for working families.

“Through his leadership, President Obama prevented the Great Recession from becoming a depression, stood up for young, aspiring citizens, rescued the American auto industry and delivered on his promise to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for millions of Americans, including those who need its protections and benefits the most.

“Last week during the Republican National Convention, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan distorted President Obama’s record and outlined their vision for an economy where we are all on our own. This week, Democrats set the record straight and made it clear that President Obama has been fighting for middle class families – even when it wasn’t easy. Tonight, we will also hear the president communicate a core American value: we are all in this together.

“With President Obama’s continued leadership, working people will know that America is moving forward, that we are on the right path and that our country’s best days are still to come. That’s why SEIU members will be on the ground and on the phones more than ever before to help re-elect him in November.

“As SEIU member and DNC delegate Stan Slepoy of Massachusetts said: ‘Working people and the rest the 99% need a leader like President Obama who will demand that the 1% pay their fair share of taxes and fight to rebuild the middle class. That’s why I went to Charlotte and that’s why I am working to re-elect President Obama. He will fight for all working people.'”
