Park Forest Area League of Women Voters Hosts Meeting on Campaign Finance Reform on Wednesday, December 12, 2012


Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)–November 29, 2012–The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area will host an educational meeting on the topic of Campaign Finance Reform on Wednesday, December 12, at 7:00 PM at the Park Forest Public Library, 400 Lakewood Boulevard in Park Forest. 

Paula Lawson, Campaign Finance Reform Issue Specialist for the League of  Women Voters of Illinois (LWVIL), will provide an update on the status of Campaign Finance Reform at the state and federal levels, with a focus on the impact of the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling that allowed unlimited political contributions from corporations.  Prior to her current position, Paula served as LWVIL President, Vice President for Issues and Action, Treasurer and Budget Committee Chair.  She is a former Executive Director of the United Way of Glencoe and has served as a board member and secretary of the United Way of the North Shore Glencoe Chapter.

The League of Women Voters supports improving methods of financing political campaigns in order to ensure the public’s right to know, combat corruption and undue influence, enable candidates to compete more equitably for public office and promote citizen participation in the political process.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend to learn more about this important issue.
