34 Arrested, as Obama Administration Breaks Its Word on Workplace Raids

Community Demands Their Immediate Release

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–December 3, 2012. In response to last week’s arrest of 34 workers at the Chicago Pallet Company, community and religious leaders will present a demand Monday, December 3, 2012 to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release the workers without bail and to use the policy of prosecutorial discretion to immediately close their cases. They will gather in front of ICE offices at Clark and Congress at 10:30 A.M.

“Moises Torres, Omar Torres, Antonio Avalos Ortega, Alejandro Garcia Loeza and many of the other detainees are fathers of U.S. citizen children. How can the Obama administration continue to separate these fathers from their children?

“We are outraged that the Obama Administration is unleashing a post-election surge of raids to randomly pick up undocumented workers. That certainly was not the mandate he received in the recent election. That was certainly not what he promised.”

“We join with people throughout the nation calling on the President to cease these raids and to extend the DACA process now in effect for dreamers to their parents and to the parents of U.S. citizen children by executive order until tREhe Congress can pass a meaningful comprehensive immigration reform.
