Brasilia, Brazil–(ENEWSPF)–March 21, 2013. U.S. Energy Deputy Secretary Daniel Poneman and Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy Márcio Pereira Zimmermann this week co-chaired the second meeting of the Strategic Energy Dialogue announced by President Obama and President Rousseff in March 2011.
The Strategic Energy Dialogue is a presidential-level partnership that provides an overarching framework to deepen energy cooperation between the two nations’ energy sectors. Through a series of concrete initiatives led by agencies from across both governments, the Strategic Energy Dialogue is helping the United States and Brazil strengthen their mutual energy security, create new jobs and new industries, and reduce carbon pollution.
This week´s meetings took place in parallel with the U.S. – Brazil CEO Forum, a bilateral dialogue between members of the public and private sector to help advance the economic and commercial ties between the two countries. The Forum was co-chaired by officials from the Department of Commerce, White House National Security Staff, and their Brazilian counterparts.
Deputy Secretary Poneman and Deputy Minister Zimmermann briefed the CEO Forum regarding the increased collaboration between the two countries’ governments and private industry through the Strategic Energy Dialogue.
“Through the Strategic Energy Dialogue, we are working to deliver concrete results that will help grow our economies through sustainable energy development and enhance our energy security,” said U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy Daniel Poneman. “With a strong, cooperative relationship between both our governments and the private sector, we are already advancing our shared energy goals in areas ranging from biofuels, renewables, and energy efficiency to sustainable oil and gas development and the safe operation of nuclear power generation.”
“We had a very productive meeting. Once again, we joined efforts in favor of the strategic partnership of Presidents Dilma and Obama. This Strategic Energy Dialogue meeting was very important to present the advancements achieved by the working groups and also to guide the next steps of cooperation. Furthermore, the meeting at the CEOS´s Forum has provided a great opportunity to update this Forum regarding the bilateral energy agenda, including the initiatives related to unconventional gas”, said Brazil’s Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy Márcio Pereira Zimmermann.
