Governors State University’s 2nd Annual Black Women Rock Awards to be Held February 28


University Park, Ill.—(ENEWSPF)–February 7, 2014 – In celebration of African American History month, Governors State University’s Student Life Department will present the second annual awards show, “Black Women Rock.” The show honors and acknowledges the contributions of GSU students, faculty and community leaders at the university and in the region.

This red carpet event will celebrate women in grand style. The “Black Women Rock” Awardswill broadcast live from GSU’s Center for Performing Arts, Feb 28 at 7:30 p.m., on Comcast Channel 16. The award show will include performances from De’Borah (contestant in season three of NBC’s “The Voice”), the Electric Ladies, Four Women, Arletha Bolton and the Blue Angels, and LavaInk. Dorothy Tucker, reporter for Channel 2 News, will be the guest speaker.

“Black Women Rock” is a way of honoring, praising and rejoicing the achievements of women in the community and thanking them for their contributions while honoring diversity. “Black Women Rock” is a free event that is open to the public.

Nominations are currently being accepted for honorees. Visit www.govst.edu/diversity to nominate yourself, a current GSU student, GSU alumna, faculty member or staff member for an award in several categories.
