Rep. Jan Schakowsky Statement After Voting For Bipartisan Budget Act

WASHINGTON, DC –(ENEWSPF)—October 28, 2015. Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky (IL-09), released the following statement after voting for the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015:

“I am pleased that House Republicans and Democrats could come together on a budget that ensures that we pay our bills and keep the government open. I made explicitly clear that I would not support any budget agreement that cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits, and this budget contains no such toxic cuts. In addition, this budget ensures that Medicare Part B recipients won’t see a drastic and unaffordable $55 increase in their premiums.

“While this budget fight has ended in bipartisan compromise we must continue to remain vigilant. Tomorrow, Paul Ryan will almost certainly become Speaker of the House and he has made it his mission to gut Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits. The strong voices of those from my district and around the country allowed us to push back against those who seek to end these vital programs. We are the richest nation in the world at the richest moment in history, and it is outrageous that some would suggest that we can’t afford to fulfill these promises to our seniors. We must keep up the fight.”
