Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- In response to a concern raised by a reader, eNews Park Forest made inquiry regarding reported incidents of shots fired in mid-January on Westwood Drive. The response from Deputy Chief Chris Mannino follows:

The Park Forest Police Department is investigating two shootings on the 100 block of Westwood Dr. on January 14 and 16, 20016, and one shooting on the 100 block of Willow Street on January 19, 2016.  In each case, no one was injured, but in two incidents a home was struck.  We have reason to believe that the incidents are connected and that there was a specific target, and the investigations continue.

Due in part to these incidents, the Park Forest Police Department has created a special unit to address gun violence.  These officers will be tasked with disrupting violent crimes in Park Forest over the next several months.

eNews Park Forest appreciates tips from readers and commends the PFPD on taking extra steps to address gun violence.
