Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Park Forest Police issued a statement on their Facebook page regarding a traffic stop that resulted in a North Carolina man being charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
According to police, “A traffic stop by Officer Elyyan and Officer Piszczor at approximately 3 am on April 29, 2016, resulted in the recovery of an illegally possessed, loaded Glock model 26 firearm, and after an investigation the felony charge of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon was filed against Darne Hall, age 23 of Clayton, North Carolina.”
“If it seems like we are encountering more illegally possessed firearms on traffic stops,” the statement continues, “we notice the trend too, and we again say thank you to officers who continually place themselves at risk to protect the public. There is no such thing as a “routine traffic stop.'”
Police go on to say that charges might easily have been avoided had the firearm been in a firearm case, properly stored, unloaded.
“As a side note, when we post photographs of recovered firearms, they can be seen lying on a case. These cases are carried in all police vehicles for the safe transportation of recovered firearms. In many cases, had the defendant simply had the firearm in a case, unloaded, and not immediately accessible, no crime would be committed. Know Illinois law regarding firearms prior to possessing and transporting.”
