A Self-professed Computer Dummy on How to Uninstall Windows 10

Eugene, Oregon—(ENEWSPF)—May 31, 2016.  I would first like to go on record as saying that I am not very computer literate.  My knowledge of computers has always been on a ‘need to know’ basis.  And change is not any easy thing for me to accept – especially when the status quo is working just fine (a combination of Austrian/Taurus stubbornness I’ve been told).

I was very happy in the world of Windows 7.  The only reason I updated to Windows 8 was when I needed a new computer and Windows 7 was no longer an option.  When my ‘computer guy’ transferred my files to the new computer, he showed me the magic button on the keyboard that would immediately take me out of Windows 8 making me happy as a pig in slop!

But suddenly, I started getting these annoying pop-ups asking me if I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10.  Each time I indicated ‘no thanks.’  However, when I turned my computer back on after returning to work following recent surgery, I found that the ‘computer demons from hell’ had somehow managed to install Windows 10 on my computer.

Taking the advice of my Yoga instructor, I found my ‘happy place’ and thought I would give it a try.  What a mistake that was.  Each day I was greeted by the Welcome Screen showing my name and e-mail address and asking for the password.  Each time it was entered, I was told it was invalid.  When the computer was restarted this screen did not come up.  While this was annoying at the start of the day, my ‘annoyance level’ increased as each time I left my computer for 10 minutes or more, that darn Welcome Screen appeared, with it continually telling me I had the wrong password making it necessary to restart my computer numerous times during the day.  By the way, I checked about the e-mail password and was told it was correct.  Even checked it out on my tablet and it worked just fine.

Suddenly, as I found myself toying with the idea of pitching the computer out the window I saw an icon on the bottom left of my computer that said ‘Ask Me Anything.’  So my question to the “Great Oz of Computers” was how do you uninstall Windows 10???

Apparently, this is a very hot topic as there were numerous articles that appeared with all kinds of unhappy Windows 10 users. The instructions for how to uninstall Windows 10 were very straight-forward and even had pictures so a ‘computer dummy’ like myself could figure things out.  I used the instructions at Tom’s Hardware http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2738057/uninstall-windows.html. Keep in mind that it will take about 30 minutes to complete the process.

One important thing to know.  If you find yourself in a similar situation and Windows 10 mysteriously appears on your computer, you’ll need to uninstall it within 30 days.

So now I’m once again in the wonderful world of Windows 8 and all is well – at least until the next software change.
