Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The precautionary boil order put into effect Sunday for a section of Park Forest has been lifted, according to village officials.

The boil order was put into effect after a water main break at 26th and Birch Streets caused low water pressure. When water pressure dips below a certain level, the village must issue a boil order as a precautionary measure.

“The water was fine the whole time,” an official at Park Forest Public Works told eNews Park Forest today. There never was any contamination in the system, according to the official. Regulations regarding water pressure necessitated the boil order, according to village officials.

The order was in effect for residents of Ash Street, Birch Street, and the Eastgate neighborhood, according to officials.

The original alert follows:

“The Park Forest Public Works Department is alerting the public that a break to a water main in the water distribution system has occurred near the intersection of 26th Street and Birch Street. As crews begin work to repair this break, there likely will be periods of very low or no water pressure in your area of the community.

“While there is no known public safety exposure at this time, a precautionary water boiling alert is in place through mid-day on Tuesday, July 26th as the Village monitors water pressure and quality.

“A precautionary boil order means that residents should boil tap water for 5 minutes if it is to be used for drinking or cooking.

“This notice does not mean that the water is contaminated. However, because the quality of the water is unknown pending laboratory verification, residents should take precautions.

“Residents will receive a follow up notice when the precautionary boil order has been lifted. Updated details on this boil alert can be found on the Village web site or by calling the Public Works Department at 503-7702 during normal business hours.”
