Sierra Club: Bernie Sanders Highlights Dramatic Contrast on Climate Between Trump and Clinton

WASHINGTON, D.C. –(ENEWSPF)–July 25, 2016.   Tonight in his address at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Senator Bernie Sanders backed Secretary Hillary Clinton as the clear choice for climate progress, declaring “Hillary Clinton is listening to the scientists who tell us that – unless we act boldly and transform our energy system in the very near future – there will be more drought, more floods, more acidification of the oceans, more rising sea levels. She understands that when we do that we can create hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs by transforming our energy system…Hillary Clinton understands that a president’s job is to worry about future generations, not the short-term profits of the fossil fuel industry.”

In response, Sierra Club Political Director Khalid Pitts released the following statement:

“Tonight, in his gracious and principled speech in Philadelphia, Bernie Sanders made it clear that the best way to continue the fight for racial, social, economic and environmental justice this election is to defeat Donald Trump and elect Hillary Clinton. Senator Sanders is absolutely right: the contrast between Trump and Secretary Clinton on the climate crisis could not be more obvious. Trump would stand alone as the only climate denying world leader if elected, while Hillary Clinton would continue to listen to the scientists and take action as the nominee with the strongest environmental positions in history.

“We applaud Senator Sanders not just for highlighting how important and how clear the choice is this election, but for running a campaign that helped put environmental justice, clean energy, and climate action in the national conversation and the Democratic platform. We are eager to continue working with Senator Sanders and his passionate supporters to keep up the fight to tackle the climate crisis until November and beyond.”
