Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth Announces Over $200,000 for Elgin Community College

Schaumburg, IL–(ENEWSPF)–July 29, 2016.  Today, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced $239,538 in federal funding for Elgin Community College under the U.S. Department of Education’s Talent Search Program. The Talent Search Program helps provide assistance for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to enable them to graduate from high school and continue their individual growth through postsecondary education.

“I paid for college through a combination of student loans, Pell Grants and a heck of a lot of waitressing, so I know how tough paying for school can be,” said Congresswoman Duckworth. “That’s why I’m so proud that Elgin Community College is going to be able to help make sure young people from disadvantaged backgrounds have the opportunity to succeed through higher education.”

The Talent Search program is intended to provide low-income individuals with services that encourage them to graduate from high school and continue with postsecondary education.  These services include academic, career and financial counseling as well as informing students of financial aid options.
