NARAL Statement on Hillary Clinton’s DNC Remarks

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–July 28, 2016.  NARAL President Ilyse Hogue today released the following statement after Secretary Hillary Clinton addressed the Democratic National Convention as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee:

“I feel so much pride after watching Hillary Clinton accept her place in U.S. history as the first woman to win a major party’s presidential nomination tonight. It has taken us a long time to get here, but it means so much to know that my daughter and son will never remember a time when there wasn’t a major party presidential nominee who was a woman.

“If last week’s Republican National Convention showed us the worst of our nation— the sexism, the racism, the misogyny—tonight, Hillary Clinton showed us the best. She stood up for the values that are the bedrock of our nation: freedom, equality, and opportunity, and we know she understands that the assault on reproductive health happening across our nation is an assault on these very values we hold so dear.

“This election is far from over, but the last two weeks have illustrated the stark contrast between our futures under Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump for women and families in this country. We resoundingly reject the anti-choice extremism peddled by Donald Trump and Mike Pence. 7 in 10 Americans support legal abortion, and we will make sure they know how important it is to vote their pro-choice values this November. We can’t wait for Hillary Clinton to win the White House and win for women and families.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
