Attorney General Flags Home Repair Scam that Results in Little to No Work Completed
Chicago, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed a lawsuit today to shut down a home repair business for defrauding Will and DuPage county homeowners out of nearly $150,000 for home repair and remodeling projects that were poorly executed or never completed.
Madigan filed the lawsuit earlier today in Will County Circuit Court to shut down Eagletop Construction also operating as Eagle Top Design and Builders and its operator Dan M. Creager. Madigan also seeks full restitution for homeowners defrauded by Creager, as well as civil penalties.
The lawsuit alleges Creager solicited consumers online, including through the referral service HomeAdvisor, to perform home repairs with an emphasis on kitchens, bathrooms, basements, remodeling and additions since at least March 9, 2015. Creager charged consumers and received payments for services that were never performed or completed, and refused to return the consumers’ payments. Madigan’s lawsuit alleges Creager’s actions violated both the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and the Home Repair and Remodeling Act.
“Through this lawsuit, we’re working to stop yet another home repair scammer from doing business in Illinois and taking advantage of homeowners,” Madigan said.
Madigan’s lawsuit notes that neither of Creager’s businesses are registered with the Illinois Secretary of State. Madigan also warns consumers that Creager recently started operating under the name Michael Builders.
Assistant Attorneys General Sarah Poulimas and Paige Boggs are handling the case for Madigan’s Consumer Fraud Bureau.
