From the Street to the Stage, Chicago Dance Crash Makes Governors State University the First Stop of New National Tour (Video)

University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)–September 29, 2016 – Audiences in Chicago’s Southland will be the first to experience a contemporary take on the classic struggle between right and wrong, this time depicted in the form of hip hop or street dance. GSU’s Center for Performing Arts will welcome Chicago Dance Crash back to its stage to perform the dance theatre piece Evil and Good on October 22 at 8 p.m.

“We’re excited to bring this Chicago-based company back to showcase their versatility, thanks to a partnership with the Chicago Community Trust. Governors State University is the perfect place for Chicago Dance Crash to start their national tour. We welcome the community to the stage all the time, and that’s really what they’re doing with this piece,” says the Center’s Executive Director Lana Rogachevskaya.

Street dance originated outside of dance studios in public spaces such as block parties and at nightclubs, evolving into a sort of urban folk dance, with hip hop making its mark on pop culture through music and media. Fans of modern and contemporary styles will recognize and appreciate Chicago Dance Crash’s interpretations.

Chicago Dance Crash Artistic Director Jessica Deahr teamed up with Culture Shock Chicago’s Christopher Courtney to conceptualize and choreograph the new work. Deahr said, “We’ve been getting a lot of requests lately to feature the street dance portion of our aesthetic a little more. That, and I’ve been wanting to work on movement that doesn’t have to forward a particular plot point or device to keep choices more in the moment. So it should be fun.”

The seven company dancers include David Ingram, KC Bevis, Brian Humpherys, Kaitlin Webster (Rehearsal Director), Kelsey Reiter, Zac McMahon, and Porsha Spells.
