Earn Song Downloads From Daniel Bambaata Marley, Toki Wright And Other Artists In New truth® Game, Graffiti Collective

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–September 6, 2013.  truth®, the nation’s largest youth smoking prevention campaign, has long reached out to teens through live music events like the Vans Warped Tour, Uproar Festival, and its own music tour, truthlive.  Now Graffiti Collective, the third mobile game to be released by truth (www.thetruth.com), will let players earn free song downloads as they complete missions and level up within the virtual street art game.

The following musicians and wordsmiths provide a mix of reggae, hip-hop, rap and other sounds to make you move on a total of eight tracks placed in Graffiti Collective:

DELL HARRIS

Atlanta-based Dell Harris is a multi-talented rapper and American songwriter, fusing indie dance music with hip-hop. Dell’s first album “Right Now,” invited listeners into his world of late night underground parties, girl troubles and jet-setter antics. His video for “Believe Me”won MTVU’s online viewer competition, ‘The Freshmen’. Dell’s latest track is “Tabletops.”

PETER LEO

A gifted emcee and soulful singer, Long Island-based Peter Leo has years of experience performing and working in the studio. His talents have been given a bigger outlet while working with indie label DCM. He is ready to release his new music to the world, including an EP with The Kid Daytona (‘The Henney & Coke’) and an EP entirely produced by DJ Concept (‘The Young Baby Father’), both set for release this year.

DANIEL BAMBAATA MARLEY

Daniel Bambaata Marley is a third-generation offspring of reggae legend Bob Marley. During his formative years, Daniel expounded on his own musical journey, producing his own music, developing his own writing and singing style, and taking to the stage under the name Daniel Bambaata (DB). In 2011, he contributed his musical stylings to his father Ziggy Marley’s “Wild and Free” album, on the song titled “Changes.” Daniel’s latest track is “Treat You Right.”

PYINFAMOUS

Self-described emcee activist Jason “PyInfamous” Thompson grew up in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, year after year developing his intrinsic ability to instill home-grown values within forward-thinking rhymes. The tracks on Final Discussion serve as a chronicle of Py’s struggles and experiences whilst providing a vivid backdrop of his visions for the future. Jason Thompson is a former truth® tour rider who spent two summers traveling the Unites States, educating teens and young people about tobacco use and the marketing tactics of the tobacco industry.

RO SPIT

Roland “Ro Spit” Coit started out deejaying parties across the metro Detroit area. Amidst sets, Coit wrote rhymes and kept inspirational company working with Grammy award-winning artist Dwele, Freeway, Phil Ade, John Connor, and Black Milk. Earlier this year he released The Monochrome EP, and his latest video “Fresh Boy” hit YouTube in May 2013.

TOKI WRIGHT

Emcee, community organizer and coordinator of the nation’s first Hip-hop Studies program, Toki Wright uniquely blends intelligent rhymes and original production into an energetic stage show.  Wright has played major festivals like South by Southwest (SXSW), Soundset and Paid Dues.  Recently the State Department sent him to Africa to educate and collaborate on ways hip-hop can play a role in developing countries. He is currently an artist on Soul Tools Entertainment, at work on his upcoming album ‘Pangea.’

The Graffiti Collective game was inspired by a 1998 document found in Big Tobacco’s files that discusses “covertly” contacting graffiti artists to ask them to paint for them in key locations. In the game, players use graffiti as a tool, ridding their “home turf” of propaganda from “Mind Fake Inc.” (MFI) – a bunch of corporations masquerading as graffiti artists.  Players use their devices to create artwork and then use location-awareness to expose the MFI’s lies and replace them with their own artwork. The game features missions, which upon completion earn song downloads from the six artists, or in-game currency, so that players can upgrade to newer creative tools including additional fonts and colors.

Along with the game, a grassroots touring component is helping spread the word about Graffiti Collective throughout the summer. An iconic orange truth truck and a crew of grassroots tour riders – young people in their early 20s who educate teens and young people about tobacco use, are making appearances at music events across the country this summer, including the multi-city Vans Warped Tour, the Vans Brooklyn House Parties and the Uproar Festival.
