New York, NY—(ENEWSPF)—September 30, 2014. In Arms Reach (IAR), a nonprofit tutoring, mentoring and free prison visitation organization that works with at-risk children and young adults who have incarcerated parent(s), is teaming together with music industry leaders and corporate sponsors to form , “Project IMPACT,”  the Inner-city Music Program Across Communities Coming Together campaign, an innovative talent search project that will attempt to identify gifted youth and children of incarcerated parents from urban communities.

IAR is based at the City College University of New York and exposes youth to academic enrichment and provides a safe place during after school hours to prevent kids from getting into trouble in the streets.

“We are excited to have an opportunity to utilize philanthropy to expose talent.  Through music and the arts talents have been birth for decades, “Project IMPACT” is a shining example of the importance of after school programs and what foundations can breed,” said Terrence Stevens, president/CEO of In Arms Reach.

Last year noted Harvard scholar, Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr.  featured Stevens’ story, along with music journalist, drummer, record producer and disc jockey Questlove and others in the Emmy nominated PBS series, African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross.

“Mr. Stevens has been advancing opportunity for young people in NYC and this talent platform for youth is one of many rivers to cross.” said Clifford Dodd, director of Program Services at In Arms Reach, Inc.

Project IMPACT will consist of exposing kids to studios of electronic production, design as well as recording and mixing studios of music and engineering. Youth impacted by the justice system will get schooled in song forms, melodies, the interaction and use of rhythm and harmony, lyric writing. They will also learn about TV and film song placement and surprise guest celebrity appearances.

“ It takes a village to raise a child and we can’t do it alone,” said Stevens. “We are challenging professional sport figures, corporate sponsors, entertainers and music executives across the country to step forward and support Project IMPACT.”
