Congresswoman Kelly ‘Disappointed’ by Illinois House Vote Lifting Concealed Carry Ban; Calls for Action

Washington, D.C.-(ENEWSPF)- Congresswoman Robin Kelly sent an email Friday evening expressing her ‘disappointment’ with the vote in the Illinois House of Representatives to lift the ban on concealed carry of guns in public.

Passage or defeat of this measure now rests with the Illinois Senate, and Kelly is calling for action:

Today in the Illinois State House, legislatures voted for a bill lifting the ban of concealed carry of guns in public, and I couldn’t be more disappointed.

Not only does this bill permit concealed carry, but it also lifts the ban on assault-style weapons, dealing a huge setback in the fight to curb violence in our communities.

Today I released this statement on my reaction to the passage of this bill:

“I am extremely disappointed that the Illinois House passed this bill. Overriding Chicago’s assault weapons ban and other local gun laws is irresponsible and dangerous and leaves cities defenseless in their fight against gun violence. I urge the Illinois Senate to vote this bill down.”

As someone who has worked tirelessly to bring safety back to our streets, I call on the Illinois Senate to stand up to the gun lobby – and to stand up for their constituents – by voting down this terrible law and enacting a tougher law to end the gun violence that is plaguing our communities.

I hope you will join me by calling state Senators in Springfield and asking them to vote down Senate Bill 2193.
