As you may have recently read in eNews Park Forest, Rosemary Piser will be moving to Eugene, Oregon this month. This will be her first move in 35 years so you can imagine the things that have accumulated in her house.
Rosemary is busy. Very, very busy with the move. She will be return to eNews Park Forest, from Oregon, on July 1.

- Wednesday, July 26 – Join us at the DownTown Village Green at 7 p.m. for Ken Schultz, ‘The Flying Fool.’ Ken has been dazzling audiences with his time tested, clean and positive fun that will not offend. Ken uses a symphony of juggling, physical comedy, humor and improvisation. Stunts include fire-eating, bowling ball juggling, and balancing an 8 foot table on his chin. At 7:45 p.m., the Latin group Banda Rika will take the stage with a powerful, versatile and highly entertaining dance show whose musical repertoire consists of Salsa, Merengue, Cambia and Bachata. They’ve been named the Best Suburban Latin Band by Suburban Nightlife.

‘The History of Hollymatic Corporation’ – Sunday June 23
The Park Forest Historical Society will present ‘The History of Hollymatic Corporation’ with speaker Bob Chura on Sunday, June 23 at 2:20 p.m. at Park Forest Village Hall, 350 Victory Drive. Bob ‘the Burger’ Chura, frequently seen on WTTW’s ‘Chicago Tonight,’ will talk about the history of Hollymatic, which had its factory in park Forest at the corner of North Street and Orchard Drive from 1962 through 1982. Chura is the great-grandson of Harry Holly, who founded Hollymatic in 1937. The event is free and open to the public.

The 1950s Park Forest House Museum at 141 Forest Blvd, Park Forest, is open Wednesday and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the museum can also be open for groups by appointment, at other times. Annabelle Gould’s print of the Park Forest Plaza is available for sale at the Park Forest House Museum, 141 Forest Boulevard. The vibrant print is from an original watercolor, showing kids and their moms in the Park Forest Plaza, in front of the old Holiday Theatre and Golden Hanger Shop. The print can be purchased at the House Museum during normal hours of operation on Wednesdays and Saturdays or through the Society’s online store on their website at www.parkforesthistory.org. Material World Three Dimensional, Sculptural Artwork – Through July 21
This exhibit features three dimensional, sculptural artwork made with materials as diverse as the artists who created them. Fabric, fiber, clay, glass, fiberglass, steel, aluminum and plaster were used by local, regional, national, and international artists to create pieces that range from 3 1/2 inches to 21 feet. Summer Musical Theatre Camp to Feature Songs, Dances from the Wonderful Land of Oz – Registration Now in Progress
Follow the Yellow Brick Road to this summer’s Musical Theatre Camp at GSU’s Center for Performing Arts. This year’s camp, from June 17 to 21, takes its inspiration from “The Wizard of Oz” as young participants learn classic songs like “Over the Rainbow” and valuable theater skills. Campers develop a mini-musical based on “The Wizard of Oz” and perform a one-time-only production at the center on Friday, June 21 at 7 p.m. During the camp, students will learn songs, choreography, and scenes from the play. Professional coaches will work with campers on scene study, voice, diction, improvisation, singing and dancing. Musical Theatre Camp is open to children ages 7 to 13. Camp takes place six hours each day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $250 for the week; the price of the camp also includes four tickets for the Friday night performance. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate Course – Registration Now in Progress
Business professionals can learn methods of project planning and statistical tools during the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate Course offered this summer at GSU. The course will take place at GSU on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, between July 6 and August 17. Students will learn how to integrate theories of business, statistics, and the elimination of waste to achieve tangible results. Instruction will take place in class and online, and will include projects, discussions, and hand-o9n applications. Participants will be awarded a Six Sigma Green Belt certificate after passing the final exam. This course is ideal for executives, managers, frontline supervisors, business owners, engineers, and practitioners of continuous improvement. The definitive voices on classroom management, Dr. Harry Wong and his wife, Dr. Rosemary Wong, will provide important insight, information and strategies to administrators and teachers on June 24 and 25 at the Holiday Inn, 500 Holiday Plaza Drive, Matteson. The workshops are sponsored by GSU’ Metropolitan Institute for Leadership in Education (MILE) of the College of Education in collaboration with Louisiana State University College of Human Sciences and Education. On Friday, June 28 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., those of all ages are invited to the ‘Fireflies Night Hike.’ Let the magic of ‘lightning bugs’ entrance you on this summer night adventure. Come and discover why fireflies flash back and forth to each other. We’ll hunt for the little phosphorescent insects, and learn why they developed their nocturnal signals, how they emit their glow, and what their coded messages mean. Participants should be prepared to walk over 1 mile outdoors on natural surface trails across uneven terrain. The event is free and open to the public. ‘Women of the Woods: A Nature Retreat’ – Registration Required by Thursday, June 27
On Saturday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., adult women are invited to ‘Women of the Woods: A Nature Retreat.’ Celebrate the beauty of the summer solstice woods in this program for women only. Discover the naturalist in you as you explore the woods, observing birds and insects, identifying trees and flowers, following tracks and much more. Participants will enjoy a hike on natural surface trails over uneven terrain for approximately 2 miles. There is a fee of $5 per person. Registration is required by Thursday, June 27. Experience the Thorn Creek Nature Center
Thorn Creek Nature Center is housed in a historic building, originally Immanuel Lutheran Church of Matteson, Illinois built in 1862, and later Village Bible Church of Park Forest. A gothic frame country church, its notable architectural features include curved ceiling, tongue-and-groove paneling and a raised pulpit. Its current attractions are displays of the preserve’s flora and fauna, a bird feeder viewing area, Eugene E. Schwartz reference library and an expanded children’s section. Park Forest Baseball Community Baseball Outing – Wednesday, June 19
Park Forest Youth Baseball is coordinating a community baseball game outing for Wednesday evening, June 19th to go see the Windy City Thunderbolts take on the Florence Freedom from Florence, Kentucky. Tickets are $10 and Wednesdays are $1 hot dog night and $1 soda night at Thunderbolt Stadium in Crestwood. Proceeds from this event will go toward PFBB’s goal of raising $300,000 to build a permanent indoor baseball training facility in Park Forest. Last year’s PFBB community baseball outing saw around 125 Park Foresters attend the event. Bulldogs Baseball & Basketball Camps Coming to SSC – Camp Begins June 17
The SSC Baseball and Basketball Programs are accepting registrations for their summer camps in June. The 2013 Bulldog Baseball Camp will take place from Monday, June 17 through Thursday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at Bulldog Stadium. The camp is designed for kids ages 6 – 14, and is directed by Head Coach Steve Ruzich and current players. The cost of the camp is $75 per camper for all four days of instruction. Each camper should have gym shoes, spikes, sweat clothes, and bring their own equipment. The Bulldog Basketball Program will host two camps – a Championship Basketball Camp from June 24 through 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a Championship Shooting Camp from June 17 through 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the SSC Fitness Center. The camps are designed for boys and girls ages 7 – 17, and will be directed by Head Coach John Pigatti and players from the 2013 Bulldog Basketball Team. The cost of the Shooting Camp is $60 and the Basketball Camp is $100, with a special price of $140 for both camps. Campers will need shorts, basketball shoes, and a T-shirt or practice uniform. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase every day of the camps. The main goal of these camps is to provide each individual with the opportunity to become a better player and to have some fun along the way.
