Washington, D.C.-(ENEWSPF)- Congresswoman Robin Kelly, a Democrat from the 2nd Congressional District of Illinois, announced today that she would support the Iranian Nuclear Deal heralded by President Obama and five other world powers. The diplomatic landmark agreement prevents war with Iran, which would cost the United States countless lives and money.

Kelly’s statement follows:

“After careful consideration, I have decided to support the Iranian Nuclear Deal. This is not a decision I arrived at lightly. Over the past few weeks, I listened to the opinions and concerns of my constituents and met with people from all walks of life. I heard impassioned arguments on both sides of the issue. It’s clear that Americans want security against the threat of a nuclear Iran. This deal, while certainly not perfect, is the best option available to us in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“With this deal, Iran’s stockpiles of enriched uranium will be reduced. The country will be opened up to strict monitoring, including on-the-ground nuclear inspectors, and the pathways to a nuclear weapon will be blocked and enforced by the United States and the international community. Should Iran violate the agreement, we have the ability to reinstate sanctions. Without this deal, Iran would be free to pursue its nuclear ambitions. We absolutely cannot allow this to happen.

“The President has shown strong leadership in seeking a diplomatic path to peace and a secure future in the Middle East and the global community. Pursuing diplomacy over military action is responsible leadership. This agreement blocks a nuclear-armed Iran, achieving the goal of strengthening global security without conflict. It is important that we now come together as a nation in support of our shared goal of peace.”
