Congresswoman Robin Kelly Visits Kankakee School

KANKAKEE—(ENEWSPF)—January 16, 2015. Congresswoman Robin Kelly today visited with students at Kennedy Middle Grade School in Kankakee to talk about government and the class’s upcoming trip to the nation’s capital.

The fifth and sixth grade students asked Rep. Kelly to describe a typical day in Congress, questioned her on the issue of violence and inquired about the advantages of wind versus coal energy.

“It was touching to see that these young minds were so concerned about the social issues of our time,” Rep. Kelly said. “It’s a good feeling to know that we’re raising a generation of young Americans who are socially conscious and concerned about the welfare of our communities and our planet.”

Kelly told students that, in her new role as spokesperson for the Congressional Black Caucus Health Brain Trust, she will work to promote dental health for children. She also urged students to become engaged in their communities as they grow older and to one day consider roles as public servants.

The class will travel to Washington, D.C. in June to attend the National Energy Education Development Project Youth Awards.
