Prairie State College Names Two New Administrators

CHICAGO HEIGHTS–(ENEWSPF)–July 7, 2015. Prairie State College (PSC) named two to administrative positions during the most recent meeting of the Board of Trustees. David Naze was named associate dean of faculty affairs, and Christopher R. Zorich was named director of athletics.

Naze has been serving as the interim associate dean of faculty affairs since August 2014. In that role, he provides support to the departments of Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Surgical Technology, Nursing Assistant, Fitness and Exercise, EMT and First Responder, Paramedicine, Fire Science Technology, Automotive, Welding, Manufacturing Technology, HVAC, Pipefitting, Industrial Electricity, Applied Mathematics and CADMD, and collaborates with the other deans to administer the grant activities of the Career and Technical Division at PSC.

Naze has been teaching at PSC since 2006. While on the faculty, he has served as curriculum developer for the Fundamentals of Communication online course, a faculty representative to the New Student Orientation Committee, chair of the Student Success Advisory Council, a faculty representative to the Strategic Planning Agenda Committee, co-director of the PSC High School Summer Speech Camp, president of the Faculty Senate, co-director of the PSC Speech Team, and a department chair.

Naze came to PSC from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., where he served as an associate instructor. He also has served as a speech instructor in the Communication Department with Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington, an instructor for the GROUPS Program at Indiana University, a full-time speech instructor in the Department of Communication for Northern Illinois University, a part-time speech instructor for the Arts/Communications/Social Sciences Division with Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill., and a part-time speech instructor in the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts for Rock Valley College.

He is past president of the Illinois Communication and Theater Association, a member of the National Communication Association, a member of the Phi Rho Pi Forensics Organization, and a member of the Northern Illinois University Forensics Alumni Council.

Naze has an Associate of Arts degree from Rock Valley College in Rockford, Ill., a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Arts degree from Northern Illinois University and a Doctor of Philosophy from Indiana University.

“We are pleased that Dr. Naze is going to continue on as associate dean of academic affairs,” said PSC President Dr. Terri L. Winfree. “He has always been a very active faculty member and administrator during his years on campus, and has inspired many students and fellow faculty members in that time. We look forward to the many more things he will accomplish in the future.”

As director of athletics, Zorich is responsible for planning, administering and directing the college’s intercollegiate athletics, intramural and recreation programs, and for coordinating practice and game schedules with the Field House Complex management team. He will provide overall leadership and guidance to the athletic department, as well as generate private or corporate support for the PSC intercollegiate teams and the PSC Foundation.

Zorich comes to PSC after several years of experience in collegiate and community athletics. He most recently served as Chicago Park District, where he was a park supervisor. Before that, he had served as the director of athletics for the Community of St. Sabina in Chicago, as well as manager of youth programming and community outreach and manager for student welfare and development for the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind.

A motivational and public speaker, Zorich also is a former defensive lineman for the Chicago Bears Football Club and the Washington Redskins Football Club.

He is an inductee in the College Football Hall of Fame; a former board member of the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics; a former board member of the Chicago Public Library, Urban Prep Academies and the Joffrey Ballet, a former trustee of Lewis University and the Illinois College of Optometry, and a former recipient of the Lombardi Award.

Zorich has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D. degree from the University of Notre Dame Law School. He also has received an honorary Doctor of Humanities from East West University, an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Governors State University, and an honorary Doctor of Public Service degree from St. Xavier University.

“We are fortunate to have Mr. Zorich join us as our director of athletics,” Winfree said. “With his a strong professional background and personal experience in collegiate sports, he will be a great asset to the student athletes of PSC, as well as the entire PSC community.”
