SEIU and EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! to Educate Voters: Todd Akin is Wrong for Missouri

WASHINGTON, D.C. --(ENEWSPF)--September 27, 2012.  Today EMILY's List WOMEN VOTE! and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) announced they will begin airing television ads in support of Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill, who is running for re-election in Missouri against Rep. Todd Akin. The $1 million ad buy begins running today on broadcast and cable channels in Springfield, St. Louis, and Kansas City.

"Claire McCaskill is the kind of independent voice Missouri women want in Washington," said Stephanie Schriock, President of EMILY's List. "And the contrast could not be clearer. In a class of total extremists, Todd Akin is possibly the most out-of-touch sounding Republican in the country. We all remember the 'legitimate rape' comment, but Akin thinks Medicare is unconstitutional, called federal student loans a cancer, and opposed the national sex offender registry. Todd Akin is just plain wrong for Missouri."

""Working people need someone in the Senate who will fight for them," said Nancy Cross, Vice President, SEIU Local 1 Missouri Division. "Todd Akin is wrong on the issues Missouri families care about, including access to education and opportunity, retirement security, and healthcare when they retire."
