So it turns out none of these 501(c)(4) groups ever had to file with the IRS, and you can bet the Tea Partiers knew that.
So why did all of these "small government" groups file with Big Government for permission they never needed in the first place? Could it be that this IRS "gate" nonsense was all staged?
