Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— Police arrested one suspect in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on December 23 on Indianwood Blvd. eNews Park Forest reported on this event in last week’s issue where a man said he was lured to a vacant residence and robbed.
On Friday, December 28, Detectives Baugh, Beilke, DeVries and Rzyski, and Officer Taylor executed a signed search warrant at 90 Indianwood Blvd., in reference to the armed robbery at a vacant home in the same block. Detectives announced their presence as police, and entered the residence after receiving no response from inside. After entry and securing the interior of the residence, detectives began searching for contraband and located the following items in their search:
- In a bedroom attic, police found one RG Industries .22 caliber revolver, one plastic semi-automatic replica handgun, one black/silver plastic model 92 style semi-automatic replica handgun, one large Ziploc baggie containing 37 individual zip lock baggies each containing a green plant-like substance, suspect cannabis.
- On the closet floor of a bedroom, police found an SKS style replica assault rifle.
- In the living room, police found one Ziploc baggie containing numerous small cigar-like objects each containing a green plant-like substance, suspect cannabis
Detective Baugh photographed the interior of the residence and the items recovered.
Detectives Rzyski and Varga spoke with Maurice Meltzer, 31, 90 Indianwood Blvd., Park Forest, who was already in custody in reference to the armed robbery incident. (The narrative regarding Meltzer’s arrest is still being written, according to police.) Meltzer was advised of his Miranda rights, which he "knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily waived," according to police. The detectives advised Meltzer that handguns were recovered during the search of his residence. Meltzer replied, "Those guns are fake, and the .22 is broke,” according to police.
On December 29, Detectives Beilke and DeVries spoke with Meltzer again after advising him of his Miranda rights. According to police, Meltzer indicated that he bought some weed from someone in Chicago, and that he sells weed to get money because he doesn’t have a job. According to police, Meltzer refused to have his statement reduced to writing, and refused to speak any further about the incident. He was placed into a cell pending further investigation.
Assistant States Attorney Gretskas reviewed the circumstances and approved one charge of unlawful use of a weapon by felons, and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver. Meltzer was processed and placed into a cell awaiting transport to the Markham Courthouse for a bond hearing. Meltzer was also charged with armed robbery. Meltzer is currently on parole for armed robbery, and the Illinois Department of Corrections was contacted and advised of the circumstances. The I.D.O.C. issued a parole violation report for Meltzer for violation of his parole.
