Kirkwood, MO —(ENEWSPF)— Connie (Conroy) Karr, one of five people killed February 7 in Kirkwood, Missouri City Council meeting, was a 1974 graduate of Rich East High School, according to Dr. Jeff Craig, Principal. Karr was serving as Councilwoman for the City of Kirkwood, a town just south of St. Louis. Karr was a native of Park Forest.

Craig shared the news in an email to administration and staff at Rich East and the Park Forest Police Department. Two other people were wounded in the exchange. The gunman, Charles Lee Thornton, was shot by police.

According to Jane Nicoll of the Park Forest Historical Society, Ms. Karr was formerly married to Rick Hummel, a St. Louis Post Dispatch sports writer who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown last summer. Before moving to St. Louis, Karr worked for the Moline Dispatch.

Karr left behind a 15-year-old daughter. She was 51.
