Police Find Diabetic Man Passed Out In Car

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Park Forest police and paramedics came to the aid of a diabetic man passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle last week.

Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Titonka Street on June 22 at 3:35 AM to investigate a report of a suspicious auto. Police discovered a vehicle parked in the middle of Titonka Street with the engine running and headlights on. Officer Hoskins checked the interior of the vehicle and discovered a subject who appeared to be asleep behind the wheel sitting in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition, his foot on the brake. The vehicle was still in drive.

While attempting to instruct the driver to open the door and exit his vehicle, the driver began to place the vehicle in reverse and drove backwards missing a tree by approximately 8 feet, according to police. Police shattered the driver’s side window and removed the driver from the vehicle. When officers called his father, they learned that the driver is a diabetic and probably has low blood sugar. The driver appeared to be incoherent to the officers, who recovered a diabetic kit containing blood sugar test strips. Police immediately notified paramedics who responded to the scene.

No criminal charges were filed.
