Chicago Heights, IL-(ENEWSF)- Prairie State College (PSC) student Nick Williams of Homewood was named state champion for individual sweepstakes in the community college division, making him the top overall speaker in the division during the Illinois Intercollegiate Forensics Association (IIFA) State Tournament hosted by Northern Illinois University. The PSC team was named sixth overall in the division.

Williams also received second place and varsity final for program oral interpretation, and was named state champion for poetry interpretation in the community college division. He received second place for after dinner speaking and second place for oratory for the community college division.

“Nick’s results in this competition are historic for PSC,” said team coach David Naze. “Illinois is one of the best states in the country in forensics competition and he is the first PSC team member to win individual sweepstakes and to break into a final round in four different events,” he added.

Liz Rossi of Crete also received sixth place for informative speaking in the community college division. Additional team members competing were Jasmine Ross of Richton Park, Matt Jiles of Flossmoor, and Sarah Hill of Harvey. The team was coached by PSC Professors David Naze, Ed Schwarz, and Elighie Wilson.

“The key to success at this tournament was to have fun above all else," Williams said.
