Sapphire and Crystals Collective Opening in PSC Christopher Art Gallery on June 3

Chicago Heights, IL—(ENEWSPF)—May 30, 2013. Prairie State College (PSC) is hosting “Sapphire and Crystals,” work by a collective of African American women artists, from June 3 through July 10, in the Christopher Art Gallery, located on the PSC main campus at 202 S. Halsted St. in Chicago Heights.

The displayed work will be by 13 artists from the Chicago collective, and includes paintings, photographs, and sculptures by artists Rose Blouin, Arlene Taylor Crawford, Felicia Grant-Preston, Juarez Hawkins, Joyce Owens, Patricia Stewart, Shirley Sullivan, Dorian Sylvain, Pearlie Taylor, Shahar Caren Weaver, Rhonda Wheatley, Shyvette Williams, and Renee Williams-Jefferson.

“The individual personal work by each member addressing various themes such as race, gender, limited palettes, our pasts, etc., exemplifies the diversity within our ethnic group, one of the missions of the group,” said Owens, who also is curator of the exhibition.

An opening reception with the artists will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, June 6, in the gallery.
The Christopher Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday. Showings are available by appointment at (708) 709-3636. The gallery will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
