Sierra Club: President Obama’s Leadership on Climate ‘Will Go Down in History’

WASHINGTON, DC –(ENEWSPF)—December 15, 2015.  President Obama just addressed the nation following the successful adoption of an international agreement that commits the entire world to serious climate action and moves us closer to a clean energy future.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“President Obama’s leadership in getting the world to this landmark agreement, a turning point for humanity, will go down in the annals of history.

The global community has now agreed to do its part to protect the millions of people already confronting the climate crisis’ extreme droughts, storms, and flooding and to better safeguard the planet we turn over to our children and grandchildren.

This breakthrough success would not have been possible without the President’s domestic leadership on curbing carbon pollution, including through the Clean Power Plan. Because of his leadership and the work of countless grassroots advocates, the United States currently has its lowest emissions in two decades, and one third of the U.S. coal fleet as it stood in 2010 has already retired or is proposed to retire.”
