New Video: Hillary Clinton For Resolve Instead of Fear, GOP Candidates For Fear Instead of Facts

NEW YORK–(ENEWSPF)–December 18, 2015.  Hillary for America released a new web video comparing Hillary Clinton’s recent remarks in Minnesota where she unveiled a plan to bolster national security with Republican candidates, who were exposed as unfit and ill-prepared during this week’s Republican debate. In the remarks, Clinton said that shallow slogans don’t add up to a strategy, and bluster and bigotry are not credentials for becoming commander-in-chief. Republican candidates, on the other hand, have offered fear instead of facts.

Clinton’s plan would seek to counter terrorists from every angle and stop every step in the process that could lead to another San Bernardino, from recruitment to training to planning to attacks. Her homeland security plan is just one element of the three-pronged strategy that she laid out at the Council for Foreign Relations last month for defeating ISIS and combating terrorism globally.

Here are some other reviews of the Republicans’ performance this week HERE:

New York TimesAt Republican Debate, Straying Into Mideast, and Getting Lost

“In a surprisingly substantive debate on foreign policy Tuesday night, Republican presidential candidates had a chance to present their alternative to what was portrayed as President Obama’s failed approach to the upheaval in the Middle East. But in their effort to demonstrate their skills at analysis and leadership, the politics and history of the region often eluded them. …

Perhaps not surprisingly, the debate was long on using military force, and short on the question of how one gets at the roots of radical Islamic jihadism — or engages the Muslim community in the United States and abroad in that effort. …

Some candidates had trouble keeping the players straight.

Bloomberg’s Josh Rogin: Republicans Debate Foreign Policy, Divorced From Reality

“After nearly two hours of debating Middle East foreign policy, Republican candidates made two things clear: All the contenders want to destroy the Islamic State. And none of them has a real plan to rid the region of terrorism. …

[A]s the candidates got into the specifics of their plans, they revealed a range of misunderstandings about the way the Middle East works, the realities of the fight against terrorist groups there and the current state of U.S. policy. …

The Republican candidates are not talking about foreign policy in a way that supports their claims they are ready to be commander in chief.”

International Politics Professor Dan Drezner in the Washington Post: A politically incorrect take on the GOP foreign policy debate

“[W]hat was startling about the debate was just how so many candidates could say so many wrong things about American foreign policy in two hours… When I came of political age, the Republican Party had a surfeit of smart, tough-minded foreign policy folk: Brent Scowcroft, Robert Gates, James Baker, Bob Zoellick, Richard Haass, and Lawrence Eagleburger. I pity these people having to listen to what was said on the GOP main stage last night. Because when it comes to American foreign policy, what was said in Vegas should stay in Vegas.”

Washington Post EditorialFor Republicans, bigotry is the new normal

“The Republican Party, once small government’s champion, is now the party that breeds presidential contenders who would monitor schools and mosques, shut down parts of the Internet and exclude certain immigrants for no reason beyond the faith they profess. In the GOP debate Tuesday, those ideas — along with can-you-top-this rhetorical barrages aimed at illegal immigrants and Syrian refugees — received a generally polite reception, with constitutional, legal and practical questions contemptuously dismissed as “political correctness.” …Fear-mongering and raw xenophobia were once the hallmarks of fringe candidates. Today the fringe candidates have stormed center stage, brandishing their zeal and hyperbole and, disturbingly, dragging the mainstream along with them.”

Daily Beast: A GOP Debate ISIS Would Love

“If one of the goals of ISIS is to scare the American people, the GOP did them a service on Tuesday night—ratcheting up the fearful rhetoric, and combining it with ideas that were at times ignorant or illegal. From carpet bombings that would kill scores of civilians to Muslim blockades to Internet bans, the Republican debate sent a message to American viewers: Be afraid. It plays right into ISIS’s hands: As a terrorist organization that is outmatched in brute strength by the United States, one of its most potent tools is psychological. It can use fear to provoke an overreaction. And boy, did the Republicans overreact.”

Associated PressAP FACT CHECK: Republican debaters go astray

“JEB BUSH: “We need to embed our forces, our troops, inside the Iraqi military.”

THE FACTS: The U.S. is already doing that. …

RAND PAUL: “Every terrorist attack we’ve had since 9/11 has been legal immigration.”

THE FACTS: Not so. …

CHRISTIE: “When I stand across from King Hussein of Jordan and I say to him, ‘You have a friend again sir, who will stand with you to fight this fight,’ he’ll change his mind.”

THE FACTS: He won’t, because he died in 1999. Jordan’s king now is Abdullah II.”
