NARAL Statement on Women’s Equality Day

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–August 26, 2016.  NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue released the following statement in recognition of Women’s Equality Day:

“We have so many achievements to celebrate this year on Women’s Equality Day: the Supreme Court this summer powerfully defended our constitutional right to safe and legal abortion, we are well on our way to electing Hillary Clinton as our first woman president, and a new wave of intersectional feminists are making broad cultural achievements so desperately needed in our society. I could not be prouder of the great work women—and men who believe in equality—across the nation are doing to make this country great again and again.

“However, we still have a ways to go until women are full and equal partners in the United States. Misogyny is alive and well in our society, Congress, and our state houses. Anti-choice laws are still holding families back and preventing women from living the lives we dream of. Possibly the most important thing we can all do to achieve women’s equality is to enable us to make our own decisions without interference. Without freedom to make our own decisions about our bodies, and without policies that support the full range of reproductive care, including abortion access, we’re unable to chart our own destinies.

“Thankfully, Hillary Clinton understands how important it is for us to have the freedom to choose whether, when, and with whom to grow our families. She knows that our ability to plan our futures in inextricably linked to women’s equality. We are so proud to be with her on Women’s Equality Day and every other day.”

NARAL Pro-Choice America and its network of state affiliates are dedicated to protecting and expanding reproductive freedom for all Americans. NARAL works to guarantee that every woman has the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. In recognition of its work defending our constitutional right to choose, Fortune Magazine described NARAL as “one of the top 10 advocacy groups in America.”
