The president-elect is once again spending his time worrying about the truly important things affecting the fate of our nation. Like a bad restaurant review.
Yes, after Vanity Fair ran a review titled “Trump Grill Could Be the Worst Restaurant in America,” Trump had a predictable response, a response the staff of Vanity Fair probably had some kind of betting pool on—not on whether it would happen, but on how long it would take and perhaps specific things it would say.
Has anyone looked at the really poor numbers of @VanityFair Magazine. Way down, big trouble, dead! Graydon Carter, no talent, will be out!

Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter, we might note, was the founder of Spy magazine who drew the world’s attention to Trump’s hands, dubbing him a “short-fingered vulgarian.” So if there’s anyone who knows how to get under Trump’s skin (including the skin on his little hands), it’s Carter, and he’s done it again, via Tina Nguyen’s review:
The allure of Trump’s restaurant, like the candidate, is that it seems like a cheap version of rich. The inconsistent menus—literally, my menu was missing dishes that I found on my dining partners’—were chock-full of steakhouse classics doused with unnecessarily high-end ingredients. The dumplings, for instance, come with soy sauce topped with truffle oil, and the crostini is served with both hummus and ricotta, two exotic ingredients that should still never be combined. The menu itself would like to impress diners with how important it is, randomly capitalizing fancy words like “Prosciutto” and “Julienned” (and, strangely, ”House Salad”).
Nguyen reports that “as soon as I got home, I brushed my teeth twice and curled up in bed until the nausea passed”—and points to a serious reason the food might be so very bad, much worse than in reviews written before Trump’s political ascendancy:
I wonder if the skilled, undocumented workers who may have once worked the line at the Trump Grill—a strong likelihood, considering the overwhelming number of illegal immigrants working in America’s restaurant kitchens—were now fired, whether due to heightened security or new P.R. considerations.
But doubtless there will be enough people wanting to say they ate at Trump Grill to keep the place full no matter how terrible it is. Especially if by doing so, they can join Trump in posturing against that mean Vanity Fair.
