CHICAGO—(ENEWSPF)—July 10, 2017. The Handmaids are coming to the Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph Street in downtown Chicago on Thursday, July 13, at 12 p.m. to tell Governor Rauner he must sign HB40. We want to deliver an important statement to him: We are standing up for reproductive rights for Illinois women.

Participants at Thursday’s rally include a coalition of women from the grassroots organization Indivisible, in partnership with Planned Parenthood, Men4Choice, HB40 Task Force, and ACLU.

HB 40, which recently passed the state Senate but which the governor has vowed to veto, aims to protect abortion rights in Illinois if the U.S. Supreme Court should overturn or change the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that made abortion legal. HB 40 also expands abortion coverage for women on Medicaid and will allow for state employees to collectively bargain for abortion coverage in their health care insurance.
