On Friday, October 27, the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) at Governors State University (GSU) will host Israel Mandrake and members of the League of Uncensored Gentlemen, a Las Vegas magic and comedy show, during a fundraising event for the Order of the Rose Scholarship fund. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Order of the Rose Scholarship was established in 2017 by Steve Hyzny, University Lecturer of Information Technology in the College of Arts and Sciences at GSU. The scholarship benefits undergraduate students in the university’s Computer Science and Information Technology programs. Students in both programs receive hands-on professional training while engaging a rigorous academic curriculum, many of them competing in cyber-defense events and earning accolades regionally, statewide, and even nationally.

“I want to bring more opportunity to more students at GSU,” Hyzny said. “This scholarship is one way to accomplish that. Our students at GSU are some of the brightest, and here we give them a chance to learn their field in and out of the traditional classroom.”

Israel Mandrake, known as “The Madman of Mind Magick,” performs Houdini-style stage magic with a unique twist of modern sensibility and humor. He tours nationally, booking clubs from Los Angeles to the Florida Keys, and has even performed for former President Jimmy Carter. Mandrake is donating his performance and all proceeds to the Order of the Rose Scholarship.

Tickets range from $10 – $30 and can be purchased online or at the box office at GSU, 1 University Parkway, University Park, IL. The box office can be reached at 708-235-2222.

Box office hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (open until 6p.m. on Thursdays) and two hours prior to all performances. For best GPS directions, always use the location search term “Governors State University” only.
