Trumpcare Goes Way Beyond Repealing the Affordable Care Act – It Guts Medicaid That’s Been in Place for 50 Years

“If Republicans thought facing their constituents during the February Congressional Recess was tough, just wait until the April recess. We aren’t going away.”

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–March 7, 2017.  LeeAnn Hall, co-director of People’s Action, provided this statement responding to the health care legislation released Monday. Hall serves on the executive committee of Health Care for America Now (HCAN) and is a leader in organizing communities nationwide on health care issues.

Statement from LeeAnn Hall:

“Trumpcare creates chaos for tens of millions of families in order to give tax breaks to the rich and bigger profits to insurance corporations. It goes way beyond repealing the Affordable Care Act – Trumpcare guts the Medicaid program in place for the last 50 years.

“People who now have health coverage, many for the first time in their lives, are going to lose it. More than 74 million people count on Medicaid for everything from well-child exams to nursing-home care. Tens of millions now stand to be thrown off Medicaid or have their benefits cut severely.

“Under the Republican scheme, poor and moderate income families will lose – and insurance companies will win.

“The Republicans want to start ramming their radical plan through without hearings and without non-partisan analysis by the Congressional Budget Office because they know how unpopular it will be.
“If Republicans thought facing their constituents during the February Congressional Recess was tough, just wait until the April recess. We aren’t going away.”
