Americo “Pops” Mattio age 91. Longtime Chicago Heights resident recently of Steger. U.S. Army Veteran/WWII. Retired after 44 years of service as a Bus Driver for the South Surban Safeway Lines. Husband for 68 years of Leonora nee Kriszcziokaitis. Father of David (Jody) Mattio, Roseann (Laurent) Santaquilani, Susan Grelewicz, Leonora (Donald) Troy and Patricia “Tia” (James) Schrank. Grandfather of Jennifer Mattio, Jolie D’Iorio, Jeannie Schmidt, Jamie Mattio, Josh Mattio, Anthony, Brian and Daniel Alessandrini, Patricia Sinclair, Olivia Santaquilani, Carolyn Swacus, Laura Morris, Joseph Grelewicz, Elizabeth Kuhmichel, Timothy and David Troy, Kathryn Saiben, Gary Schrank, Emily Beers, Rachel Rich and Gregory Schrank. Great grandfather of Jeremy, Jordan, JoAnn, Cassidy, David, Madison, Noah, Dylan, Will, Olivia, Gianna, Anthony, Gabriella, Austin, Ryan, Dakota, Tyler, Adam, Sophia, Nathaniel, Nicolas, Meghan, Benjamin, Julia, Marley, Katlyn, Angel, Destiny, Parker, Andrew, Cameron, Emily, Joseph, Francesca, Rowan, Lila and the late Hannah. Brother of the late John (late Mary) Mattio. Loving uncle and dear friend, and devoted “Pops Mattio” to the thousands of Marian Catholic High School athletes to whom he delivered a smile, a gesture of encouragement, and piece of hard candy as they made their way to the field of play.
