It sounds like this weekend will be another snowy one. Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. would be a great time to come out for short “staycation” from the winter doldrums, and visit the 1950s Park Forest House Museum. The Forest Boulevard School classroom is all dressed up for 1950s school Valentines Day party. Vintage Valentines are on display throughout the house, including honeycomb, “puffy” hearts, and handmade “mailboxes” on each desk. Even the black panther TV lamp is bedecked in roses!
You don’t want to miss seeing the “Dolls of the 1950s” exhibit. We have a large collection of 8 inch hard plastic dolls by several makers, and of 8 inch vinyl baby dolls. Larger dolls likeTiny Tears, DyDee Baby and Dollikins, Toni and Mary Hoyer, and other very familiar baby dolls from the 1950s are waiting to warm your hearts again. Copies of magazine, catalog and doll maker advertising brochures are part of the exhibit. When is the last time you said, “Hello” to Howdy Doody? We also have Lincoln Logs, American Plastic Bricks, the Marx tin lithograph farm with animals, along with childrens books, and mounted automobile ads.
Come over from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon and “play” at our house! Adult donation is $5.00; children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. In this 60th Anniversary month, come see pictures of what the pioneer citizens lives were like. The museum is at 141 Forest Blvd, at the corner of Forest and Fir.
