1950s Museum Grand Opening

On Saturday, February 2 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the 1950s Park Forest House Museum will hold a Grand Re-Opening Open House. We hope people will take this opportunity to come celebrate with us, and to see the museum for free!  There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12:30 p.m.  Immediately following, Jim Prybys of AIA-Illinois’ Eastern Illinois Chapter will present Village Officials with a plaque in honor of Park Forest being included in the AIA-150 Great Places in Illiinois.  You can see the entry for that at www.illinoisgreatplaces.com.  Some of us have been working quite hard to get the museum ready.  The Forest Boulevard School classroom on the second floor will be decorated for a 1950s Valentine’s Day party. It is looking really nice so far–very nostalgic.  One of our new dolls is even sitting on a wicker heart shaped bench, wearing her new Valentine dress for the party  I hope to get the decoarting done early enough to get a large photo of the classroom printed, so folks who can’t get to the second floor can see it, too.!  There will be vintage Valentine decorations on the main floor, as well..  After February 2, the museum donation will be $5 for adults; children 12 and under free with a paying adult.  The open house is a great chance for people to see what fun the museum is, and how "painless" it is for people to learn a little Park Forest history along the way!  Once you have seen it, we are sure you will want to bring in family, friends and neighbors to share the experience!   Please join us for this very special event in the life of Park Forest!  For more information on our programs, go to www.parkforesthistory.org.  Go to Clubs and Organizations in this paper for more information on our past and upcoming programs.  We talk about our February 10 program on the history of the Gavin Foundation, there.  I will blog about that, soon!
