Charges Filed in Northside Bank Robbery

Chicago, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was joined today by Jody P. Weis, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and Thomas Dart, Cook County Sheriff, in announcing the arrest of JIMMIE FULLER, age 44, of 1458 South Canal Street in Chicago. FULLER was arrested yesterday afternoon, without incident, by CPD Officers who responded to a robbery alarm at the North Community Bank branch, located at 2800 North Western Avenue.

FULLER was charged in a criminal complaint filed earlier today in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of Bank Robbery, which is a felony offense. According to the complaint, FULLER entered the North Community Bank branch at approximately 4:00 PM, approached a teller and orally announced a robbery. FULLER, who was brandishing a knife, is then alleged to have jumped on the teller counter and reached down into a cash drawer, removing $240 in cash. FULLER then fled the bank on foot, disappearing into the passing crowd.

As he exited the bank, FULLER encountered a messenger, who was making a scheduled stop at the bank. A few seconds later, the bank manager came outside, telling the messenger that the bank had just been robbed. The messenger attempted to locate the fleeing robber, but was unsuccessful.

Approximately 15 minutes later, the messenger was en route to another delivery, when he observed FULLER standing on the corner attempting to hail a cab. After FULLER was picked up by a passing cab, the messenger followed the vehicle while simultaneously contacting the CPD, advising them of his whereabouts. CPD patrol units eventually located the cab and arrested FULLER near Belmont and Damen Avenues.

FULLER was later turned over to the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF). Subsequent investigation by the VCTF developed additional information linking FULLER to the robbery, which led to the filing of the charges announced today.

FULLER appeared earlier today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Geraldine Soat Brown in Chicago, at which time he was formally charged. FULLER was ordered held without bond, pending his next scheduled court appearance, and is being housed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Chicago.

The Chicago FBI’s VCTF is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the CPD and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
