Matteson, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Yesterday, Governor Pritzker signed legislation to invest $162 million in critical infrastructure improvements that will also support a future South Suburban Airport.

“Thanks to recent economic growth, our current road system cannot support our community’s present logistical needs. These new investments will have an immediate and positive impact on the Second District while laying the necessary infrastructure footprint to support a future South Suburban Airport,” said Congresswoman Robin Kelly. “I want to thank our delegation for their efforts to secure these greatly needed investments and all of the elected officials who joined our efforts to request these critical state investments.”

In May 2019, Congresswoman Kelly sent a letter to Governor Pritzker requesting $150 million in state infrastructure investments. The letter was co-signed by 53 Chicagoland elected officials, including House Speaker Mike Madigan, U.S. Congressmen Bobby Rush and Danny Davis, and numerous state senators, state representatives, mayors, aldermen and county commissioners. The list includes elected officials from Cook, Will and Kankakee counties.

“I’d also like to thank Governor Pritzker for signing this important legislation. I appreciate his attention and consistent openness with me when it comes to this and other needs in our community. He and his team are always just a phone call away which is a big change over last year,” added Congresswoman Kelly.
