Detective Varga Honored at Cook County Enforcement Awards Ceremony

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Park Forest Police Detective James Varga was one of a select number of officers honored last week at the annual Cook County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Award Ceremony in Chicago .

Varga, a ten year veteran of the Park Forest Police Department and the 2008 Officer of the Year, received the Award of Merit for Outstanding Service and Professionalism.

“Jim Varga exemplifies the ideal of a professional Police Officer with his duties and successes in the Park Forest Investigations Unit. Detective Varga was instrumental in solving several Homicides, both in Park Forest and as a member of the Major Crimes Task Force, along with numerous other serious crimes,” said Deputy Chief Mike McNamara.

The awards program was begun by former Sheriff Michael Sheehan and has been continued by Sheriff Tom Dart. William McHenry, Chief of the Cook County Sheriff’s Police noted the officers honored last week “exemplify the best of the best that law enforcement has to offer throughout all of Cook County .”

Varga was one of 46 officers in Cook County to receive the honor this year.
