District 162 Prepares for Final Days of School

Matteson, IL—(ENEWSPF)— The Board of Education for School District 162 will meet Tuesday, May 20, at Huth Middle School to plan for the last days of school, approve leaves of absence for some teachers, and accept one teacher’s resignation.

Students can look forward to a four day Memorial Day weekend. There is no school on Friday, May 23, for "Records Day," and no school likewise on Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day. Eight grade graduation will take place on Wednesday, May 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the Tinley Park Convention Center.

The board is scheduled to approve maternity leave of Terese Arroyo, Richton Square School kindergarten teacher, from August 19, 2008, to December 1, 2008; return to work three days per week through June 3, 2008, for Christine Castelloni, special education teacher at Illinois School; maternity leave of Amie Leib, Huth 7th grade language arts teacher, beginning August 19, 2008, with an undetermined return date; medical leave of absence of Donald Shanahan, 4th grade teacher at Sauk School, beginning May 12, 2008, for the remainder of the 2007-2008 school year; an extension of the leave of absence for Michele Kossak, reading specialist at Indiana School, for the 2008-2009 school year; and an extension of the maternity leave of Paula Jennings, 3rd grade teacher at Illinois School, through May 23, 2008.

The board is also scheduled to consider and approve the resignation of Angela Grzybek, 5th grade teacher at Indiana School, effective June 6, 2008.

Finally, the board will go into executive session "to consider information regarding a student discipline case and the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees or public officials, collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees," according to the board’s agenda.

The board will convene next on June 10, 7:00 p.m., at Huth Middle School.
