University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– “Experiencing the sculptures of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park on a moonlit night can reward visitors with a unique perspective,” said Geoffrey Bates, director and curator of the sculpture park which is located on the campus of Governors State University. “The subtle light combined with the gentle crunch of snow makes the whole park unfamiliar and new.”
On January 10, 2009, by the light of the full moon, visitors will be able to tour many of the sculpture parks’ nationally recognized pieces. Bates will lead the tour, providing insight on the works and the artists who created them. The fee for the Full Moon Nighttime Tour is $5 and advanced registration is required.
The tour begins at “Art Ark” by Terry Karpowicz, in the Hall of Governors at 6:30 p.m. Participants will also visit the giant “Paul” by Tony Tasset, the mysterious “Flying Saucer” by Jene Highstein, and many other favorite works in the park. The tour ends at 8 p.m., at Bruce Nauman’s “House Divided,” with a cup of hot chocolate and cookies.
“Adventurers should bring a flashlight, dress warmly, and wear comfortable, waterproof shoes since some of the paths are uneven,” advised Bates.
The Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park includes twenty-six sculptures by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists including significant works by Mark diSuvero, Martin Puryear, and Richard Hunt. It is open from dawn until dusk, 365 days a year. Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois.
