University Park, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Governors State University Visual Arts Gallery presents “Natural or Man-Made or One in the Same,” a photo exhibition by graduate student Michael E. Smith. The exhibit runs through June 24. A closing reception hosted the artist will be held on Wednesday, June 24, from 6 to 9 p.m., in the gallery.

As a lifelong chronicler of nature and the outdoors, Smith of Chicago, uses his photography as a means to understanding the environment and mankind’s role in it. In a series of 27 large format photographs, he depicts how humankind has directly impacted the natural world. Each image also illustrates the unremitting strength of Mother Nature. Smith’s photographs show the sometimes messy, sometimes beautiful world and engage the viewer in a debate about the natural versus the artificial and wilderness versus civilization.

The Visual Arts Gallery is located in the E-Wing at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call (708) 534-4021.
