Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter Bill Miller will be performing in honor of Native American Heritage Month at Prairie State College (PSC). The concert is scheduled for Monday, November 24, from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m., in the Barnes & Noble Reading Room, located on PSC’s main campus, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights.
A Mohican Indian from northern Wisconsin, Miller is one of the most admired figures in Native American music. Miller, whose Indian name, Fush-Ya Heay Ka means “bird song,” has been performing since age 12. While he was a teenager, he played in a teen rock band but grew tired of it after a few years. He traded his electric guitar for an acoustic and began to play folk music and bluegrass. Miller’s turning point came when he attended a Pete Seeger concert shortly after leaving the reservation to study art at the Layton School of Art and Design in Milwaukee. The experience inspired him to move to Nashville to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter. He has produced more than 12 albums including “Spirit Rain” and the Grammy winning “Cedar Dream Songs.”
“We are very excited to bring an artist of Bill Miller’s caliber to Prairie State College to help us celebrate Native American Heritage Month,” said Helen Manley, coordinator of student life.“I think everyone who attends his performance will be able to relate in some way to what he has to say and feel inspired by his words and music.”
