University Park, IL-(ENEWSPF)- University Park Generating (UPG) facilities recently donated $54,000 to the Family Development Center (FDC) at Governors State University to improve indoor and outdoor playgrounds and the bicycle track around the center.

UPG leaders, already committed to the community, were seeking a greater presence, said Carol Morrison, FDC Executive Director. FDC’s online video prompted officials to partner with the university’s child care agency, whose clients are more than 90 percent low-income.

The donation came from two local UPG sites to ensure a safe and fun learning environment for children.

An initial pledge of $40,000 would have expanded the track around the center to make it safer for bicyclists. However, UPG saw a greater need and increased its gift to make additional improvements to the playgrounds, which will get new equipment and carpeting.

“Safety is a high priority for UPG, and being actively involved in the community has become a company focus,’’ said Gary Simmons, UPG Plant Manager.

Will Davis, CEO of the GSU Foundation, said the university always welcomes new partners to advance its mission to serve the educational and development needs of children. “University Power Generating facilities is empowering the work at the Family Development Center, and we appreciate our community partners who invest in the growth, safety, and education of the young ones at the FDC.”
