GSU Joins SAP University Alliance

University Park , IL–(ENEWSPF)– Beginning this academic year, students and faculty at Governors State University will have access to one of the business world’s most advanced and popular enterprise resource planning software packages. Participation in the SAP University Alliance will enable GSU to offer advanced training in this real world enterprise resource planning software.

“Acceptance in this alliance gives our students access to software used by most national and international corporations,” explains Dr. David Green, Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems. “They will gain hands-on familiarity and experience with this advanced software, which they will need in the workplace. It gives our graduates a competitive advantage.”

Green explained that use of the software package will be integrated in both graduate and undergraduate curricula and will be included in a variety of subject areas.

“This program will be used for class projects in business, computer science, health professions, management information, and accounting among others. Students will be able to integrate data into a common system with shared data bases just as they would in the real world.”

Membership in the SAP University Alliance is gained after application review and compliance with usage standards is assured.

“Familiarity with this system is in high demand in the workplace. It is difficult to use so we are very eager to offer our students the opportunity to gain familiarity before they enter the job market,” said Green.

Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois. For more information about degree and certificate programs using this advanced system, call (708) 534-4967.

GSU Celebrates International Education Week

With more than 315 students from different countries around the world attending Governors State University and students and faculty studying, interning, or teaching abroad, celebrating International Education Week at the university has important meaning.

“When students from different countries take classes together, they learn more than just the subjects being taught,” says Vreni Mendoza, Director of International Services at GSU. “They learn that our differences are much less important than our similarities and that the world outside of Illinois is worth exploring and learning more about.”

International Education Week activities begin on November 17 with a day of activities in the Hall of Governors including student presentations about their home country, international food tastings, games, a geography awareness quiz, and Mehendi, the art of decorating the body with henna. Photos of friends and family submitted by students, faculty, and staff will also be on display as part of “We All Smile in the Same Language.”

Activities continue on November 18, at 2 p.m., in Sherman Hall with a coffee and cookie social hour and several presentations including “Teaching and Learning Experience in China” and SPEAR-IT, a drum and dance experience. The afternoon will also include the presentation of “24 Ways to Go International.”

An International Resource Fair will be held on November 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., in the Cafeteria Annex. Information about study abroad opportunities will be presented as well as information for faculty about short-term study and teaching opportunities in other countries will be available. A U.S. Passport Application booth, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., will offer passport application, renewal, and photographic services.

International Education Week activities are co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and State Department. All activities are free and open to the public. Governors State University is located at 1 University Parkway, University Park, Illinois. For more information contact the Office of International Services, (708) 534-3087.
