Health Care Reform

Congressman Jackson Says We Must Act on Behalf of All Americans and Pass Health Insurance Reform

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)–September 9, 2009.  Congressman Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. made this statement following President Barack Obama’s address to a joint session of Congress about health insurance reform:

“President Obama delivered tonight a strong, powerful and poignant message to Congress and the American people.  He made crystal clear that now is the time to rise to the challenge and meet the moral obligation of overhauling our nation’s health care system.

“Our resolve to reform a broken system must match this moment’s urgency.  With health care costs rising three times faster than wages, millions of Americans being denied coverage because they get sick and many more millions with no coverage at all, we simply cannot maintain the status quo.  We must act, now.

“The President’s plan has two overriding goals: to bring stability and security to Americans who have insurance today, and affordable coverage to those who don’t.  It also will slow the growth of health care costs for our families, our businesses, and our government.  It’s a plan that we in Congress must rally around and deliver on for the American people.”
